La juridiction du Bureau de l'ombudsman s'étend à toute information diffusée à Radio-Canada, quel qu'en soit le média, radio, télévision ou Internet et quel qu'en soit le rayonnement, national ou régional. C'est l'aire d'application de la politique journalistique qui détermine, en quelque sorte, le champ d'intervention du Bureau de l'ombudsman et cette politique s'applique à l'ensemble des émissions de la Société. Il s'agit des émissions de nouvelles, des émissions d'affaires publiques proprement dites de même que du traitement, dans tout genre d'émission, de sujets d'affaires publiques, qu'il s'agisse de politique, d'économique ou de social.
